NFL Draft kicks off in Chicago
The first day of the NFL draft kicked off with NFL Draft Town in Grant Park opening to the public.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago is the center of the universe for football fans as the first pick in this year's NFL Draft began at 7 p.m. Thursday.

But while they wait, fans get to enjoy an outdoor interactive football festival in Grant Park in "Draft Town."

Chicago has become "Draft Town" for the next three days, and this is the place for fans to experience football on lots of levels, from interactive exhibits to up-close opportunities to interact with your favorite team. Even take a picture with the Vince Lombardi trophy - most Bears fans haven't had the chance to see that in town since 1985.

The teams all have their work stations set here as well. Team representatives will actually sit at these desks in Grant Park while they determine who to pick. They then call over to the Auditorium Theatre with the selection.

The Chicago Bears selected wide receiver Kevin White in the seventh pick.

"I think it's cool how the NFL has kind of re-invented the Draft, making it more of an event rather than just a spectacle," said Gavin Porter, a Tennessee Titans fan.

"It's great for football to finally bring out something that brings out more chances for more people," said Christian Barcot, an Oakland Raiders fan.

"Draft Town" will be open to the public Thursday and Friday from 4-10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

It's estimated over 100,000 people will take part in the festivities.
