A very lucky puppy is getting lots of love after a freak accident in northern India.

An animal rescue group rushed to a construction site in the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan, after getting a call about a dog stuck in spilled tar.

They found a five-month-old puppy lying motionless in a pool of solidified, warm tar.

Rescuers used large amounts of vegetable oil to loosen it. After about three hours over two days, they were finally able to pull the little guy out. It took several more days to clear his body of the sticky substance.

The puppy was taken to a shelter, where he was nursed back to health.
