CHICAGO (WLS) -- An ExpressJet plane was forced to return to Chicago's O'Hare Airport shortly after takeoff Monday morning following a report of a smell of smoke in the cockpit.

Officials say the small plane, operated by United, was headed to Norfolk, Va., and took off at about 7:35 a.m. Monday. It returned to O'Hare soon after takeoff.

The plane landed safely and passengers were placed on another ExpressJet flight, which took off just after 10:15 a.m.

No fire was found on the plane. However, it has been taken out of service.
