BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- A teller was shot during a bank robbery in Bolingbrook in which the offender got away with an undetermined amount of cash.

The female victim, who was shot in the arm, is in good condition. She was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Bolingbrook police received a call from a witness after the offender was seen fleeing the First Midwest Bank at 450 North Bolingbrook Drive just before noon on Monday.

"The Bolingbrook officers had made entry to the bank and were able to locate the employee victim," Bolingbrook Police Lt. Michael Rompa said.

Police said the teller, who is in her 20s, was able to walk out of the bank and to the ambulance. She was one of six employees and six customers in the bank at the time of the hold-up. Fatima Husain and her mother were going through their safety deposit box downstairs when the robbery and shooting occurred.

"I ran back upstairs to get someone to get us checked out. That is when I saw this customer sitting on her knees with her hands up, and I just didn't think about anything. I went back to get mom, then I called 9-1-1," Husain said.

While the employees are shaken, they followed all the correct procedures, First Midwest Bank officials said.

"We are very pleased our employees followed security practices we put in place and regularly review with them," James Roolf, First Midwest Bank, said.

The offender is described as a black man wearing a red hat and bandana.

"Approximately 6 feet, 190 pounds. Wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, jeans, a red baseball cap and a black bandana with white markings," Lt Rompa said.
