Baby sloth flown on private jet to new home
PITTSBURGH (WLS) -- There was a very important guest aboard a private plane that landed in Pittsburgh Monday: a baby sloth on his way to his new home at the National Aviary.
The two-toed sloth was born on Oct. 31 and was flown in from Florida.
"They're such unique animals," said Dr. Pilar Fish, Veterinary Director at the Aviary. "You have to slow everything down to adapt to them. But just knowing what's normal and natural for a sloth is a first step in being able to provide high-quality care for them."
The aviary says the sloth will play an integral role in outreach and education programs. It will also serve as an ambassador for rainforest species. The sloth will make its public aviary debut on Friday.
The baby sloth does not have a name yet. National Aviary officials say the public will have the opportunity to bid in an auction for the chance to name him. Those details will be released later.
