CHICAGO (WLS) -- More than two dozen dogs and cats from Louisiana are now looking for new homes here in Chicago.

Paws Chicago spent the last two days rescuing animals that were left homeless by the historic flooding in Southern Louisiana over the past few weeks.

The shelter sent two vans with a veterinary team and volunteers to help alleviate the overcrowding in Louisiana rescue shelters. The transported cats and dogs are now in Chicago.

The pets will be available for adoption once they're medically cleared.
