Dr. Haohua Yang accused of sexually assaulting female patients at Yorkville clinic

YORKVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- A suburban doctor is charged with sexual assault. Investigators said three patients came forward, claiming they were touched inappropriately during office visits. Police are now searching for more victims.

Dr. Haohua Yang operates the Yorkville Medical Center in Yorkville. He is free on bond Thursday night after Kendall County authorities charged him with sex crimes for allegedly abusing three of his patients. Police say his arrest is the result of an ongoing investigation that began two years ago.

"Once the warrant was issued his attorney was in contact with the state's attorney here in Kendall County, and arrangements were made for him to turn himself in, which he did," said Sgt. Andrew Jeleniewski, Yorkville Police Dept.

Investigators said the assaults took place between 2012 and 2014. According to court documents, the 50-year-old internist is accused of inappropriately touching or fondling the victims -- all adult female patients -- during medical examinations at his clinic in Yorkville.

"There were three patients that came forward and there were allegations of criminal sexual assault as well as criminal sexual abuse," Sgt. Jeleniewski.

Dr. Yang's bail was set at $150,000. The physician has been charged with three felony counts of sexual assault and five counts of sexual abuse. He could not be reached for comment.

Both the Yorkville and Naperville practices remained closed on Thursday. According to his clinic's website, Dr. Yang, is board-certified in internal medicine, has been practicing medicine since 1987, and is on staff at two area hospitals.

And while colleagues who did not want to be on camera remain shocked by the allegations, police say they're still looking for other victims.

"It's one of the most horrendous violations of trust. We take it very seriously," Sgt. Jeleniewski said.

Dr. Yang's medical license has been temporarily suspended due to the criminal charges. He's set to appear before the state medical board later this month.
