Donnie Boyce fired from Proviso East High School, board meeting attendees say

MAYWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- The Proviso East School Board voted to terminate Donnie Boyce, a suspended high school basketball coach and security guard, according to people who attended Tuesday night's board meeting.

Boyce was suspended in December after cell phone video showed him in an altercation with a student while he was working security at Proviso East High School in west suburban Maywood.

On Tuesday night, Boyce spoke with board members in executive session. He said he hoped they would decide to lift his suspension. But board meeting attendees said he was fired.

Boyce served as the boys' basketball coach for three seasons.
