CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in broad daylight in the 9800-block of South Indiana in the Rosemoor neighborhood.

Not only was the 24-year-old woman sexually assaulted, her attacker apparently shoved her in the trunk of her own car. A resident in that area says he went out to throw the trash in the alley, saw the car, and was shocked when he saw her.

"The trunk popped open and the young lady, yelling out, hysterically 'help me, help me, help me!'" said George Simpson, Sr.

The red Dodge car was behind Simpson Sr.'s home in an alley at 99th and Indiana Street.

"I noticed she was half-clothed. I knew something was wrong and that's when I called police," said Simpson Sr.

A woman, believed to be a Chicago State University student, told him she had been sexually assaulted.

"She was shocked, she was shaking. You can tell she was in a complete state of shock," said Simpson Sr.

The victim told Simpson she went to visit her cousin just up the street on Indiana when a man approached her.

"She said a guy had assaulted her with a knife," said Simpson Sr.

Police say the attacker forced her back into the car and sexually assaulted her, a disturbing crime for Rosemoor residents.

"It's scary. You never know what you're going to run into," said Sheila Clifton, Rosemoor resident.

Police said the victim was taken to Roseland Hospital in good condition.

"It's unbelievable. We don't usually have anything like that happen in this neighborhood. It's very quiet, peaceful," said Simpson Sr.

This assault happened in broad daylight on Wednesday at 12:50 p.m. No one is custody.
